Longmeadow Animal Hospital was established in its present location at 19764 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, MD in 1971. Since then, we have offered the highest quality veterinary medical care to the greater Hagerstown, Smithsburg, and Leitersburg area. We are dedicated to helping our companion animal friends live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Our goal is to improve the quality of your pet's life, and health. From annual wellness to surgery, diagnostics to end-of-life care — eighteen services, one team.
Annual wellness exams evaluate your pet's overall health, detect problems before they become serious, and keep them on track to live a long, healthy life.
Annual dental exams and cleanings are recommended to protect your pet from many health problems and help them maintain a healthy and clean mouth.
Preventative care is an important aspect in maintaining your pet's health. Proper vaccination is vital in protecting them against harmful diseases.
Proper diet and nutrition can help your pet fight against disease, maintain a proper weight, and promote the overall well-being of your pet.

DVM • Medical Director
A native of New Jersey, Dr. Gurshman received her B.S. from Cornell University in 1989 and her DVM from Cornell in 1993. She practiced veterinary medicine in Prince George's County and Calvert County, Maryland for 24 years before joining LAH in 2017, when her family moved to Hagerstown. She and her dogs enjoy long walks on the C&O Canal and exploring local hiking trails.
Associate DVM
Dr. Horman is a Hagerstown, MD local. She received her bachelor's degree from Shepherd University and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine in Arizona. She has two dogs and one cat, and outside of work enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Associate DVM • Feline Medicine
A native of West Virginia, Dr. Dryburg has practiced companion animal medicine and surgery in this region for over 18 years — B.S. from Shepherd College (2001), DVM from Tuskegee University (2006). She is an active member of the Feline Veterinary Medical Association and the AVMA, with experience spanning emergency and critical care, preventative and shelter medicine. Special interests: feline medicine, soft tissue surgery, and elimination disorders.
Hospital Manager
Amy has been in the veterinary field for about 30 years, starting right out of high school. She first worked at Longmeadow in 2008 as a veterinary assistant/surgical tech, returned in 2019 as Office Manager, and now leads the hospital as Hospital Manager — still jumping in on technician and client-service duties from time to time. At home: two dogs (Zuma and Riley), two cats (Chibi and Roadrunner), a grand-pup named Finley, and shared custody of a grand-horse, Private Pilot.

Eight years in veterinary medicine, most of it in emergency care. Advocates for pets and their people every day — lives in Hagerstown with her husband, 4 dogs and 3 cats.
Certified Vet Technician & Animal Care Supervisor
With LAH since 2011. Wilson College graduate, CVT since 2008. Focuses on surgery and ultrasound — performing ultrasounds since 2017. Second career: former tax accountant.

With LAH since January 2024, eight years in the field. "We are our pets' voice, and it's up to us to advocate for them in all ways possible."

Twenty years in veterinary medicine; University of Florida vet-tech graduate. Fear Free certified handling — a very large heart for animals, especially misunderstood breeds.
Veterinary Assistant / Surgical Assistant
Born and raised in Hagerstown; HCC Biology graduate, 2021. Grew up next to a farm, always bringing home sick or injured animals to save. With the team since 2019.
Senior Veterinary Assistant / Surgical Assistant
NYC native, Wilson College class of 2023 (Animal Science & Small Business Mgmt). Worked as a vet assistant through school, taught riding lessons, managed equine facilities in the DMV.
Senior Veterinary Assistant
Smithsburg High class of 2020, HCC Certified Nursing Assistant 2023. Worked at Longmeadow in 2021 and returned in 2023. Lives with her pup Finley and her OTTB horse, Private Pilot.

Sharpsburg native, currently taking pre-requisites toward becoming a veterinarian. Two pit-bull-mix dogs, Sadie and Smokey. "Aspires to be a crazy animal lady when she grows up."

With LAH since 2023. North High graduate, soon starting classes at HCC for Certified Groomer. Floats across restraint, exams and surgical assisting. Lives with his cat Pumpkin and pups Lynx and Ruby.

Summer cookouts, family barbecues, and fresh corn on the cob often go hand in hand. While corn itself isn't typically harmful for pets, the cob is a completely different story. Every year, veterinary hospitals treat dogs — and occasionally curious cats — for serious emergencies caused by swallowing corn cobs.
Plain, cooked corn kernels are generally safe for both dogs and cats in small amounts — corn is a common ingredient in many commercial pet foods, providing carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. But corn on the cob should never be given to a pet: the cob is a choking hazard and can cause a life-threatening intestinal blockage that may require surgery.
We value serving our clients and treating their pets with the best care possible. Keeping this in mind, we made the very hard decision to close our kennel services as of January 2023. Our veterinarians and veterinary team continue to focus on the high-quality veterinary care that you expect; there is limited boarding for medically necessary treatments on a case-by-case basis.
